Festival of Science and Curiosity Nottingham 2026

Celia Rocton

9 Feb 2026

Celia, Benji and Melissa doing outreach event at 2026 FOSAC

Throughout the week of 9th – 20th February, Melissa WhiteBenjamin Denison and Celia Rocton have had the privilege of delivering a series of STEM outreach events across Nottinghamshire as part of the 2026 Nottinghamshire Festival of Science and Curiosity, and the experience has been truly rewarding!

🏫 Holgate School

We visited Year 6 students with a battery-themed lesson, combining curriculum-linked content with a hands-on activity to bring the science to life. Seeing young students engage with electrochemistry in a practical, meaningful way was fantastic.

📚 Strelley Library & Bulwell Library – Drop-In Sessions

We hosted open drop-in sessions at two local libraries, welcoming children and their families to explore science together. Activities included:

• A lemon battery demonstration

• A giant coin cell assembly in a small glovebox

• Battery Jenga (a fun, interactive game designed to help the understanding of intercalation chemistry within li-ion batteries)

These sessions were a wonderful opportunity to make STEM accessible and enjoyable for people of all ages.

Stapleford Community Centre

We ran a workshop and drop in session at Stapleford Community Centre, continuing to engage local residents with hands-on battery science.

A special thank you to the The Faraday Institution for kindly providing merchandise for our events — it was a brilliant addition that the participants loved!

We are grateful to all the schools, libraries, and community venues that opened their doors to us.
