William Balkwill-Western

PhD student

Will is originally from rural North Devon. He started his integrated master's in chemistry at Bangor University and finished it at Cardiff University. Now a PhD student within the NAMI group, his project is focussed on the synthesis and electrochemical analysis of novel magnesium battery electrolytes. Will is part of the Centre for Doctoral Training for Sustainable Chemistry, which aims to promote the principles of green chemistry and the UN sustainable development goals. The aim of his research into magnesium batteries is to help develop a more sustainable alternative to current lithium-ion battery technology. Outside of chemistry, Will enjoys playing badminton, bell ringing and quizzing. He represented Cardiff at University Challenge.
